Wolfram Schmidt

Dr. Wolfram Schmidt is President, Head of Europe and a member of Biogen’s Extended Leadership Team. As a global executive with experience in board membership, general management, science and commercial leadership across the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, he has a deep purpose in delivering for patients by leading high performance teams and driving innovation, partnerships and growth. 

Committed to shaping the future of the sector and access environment, Dr. Schmidt is a prominent voice in industry associations, currently serving as a Board Member of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). Previously, he was President of the American Biotechnology Companies Germany (LAWG) and an Executive Board Member of the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (VFA). He is a member of the supervisory board of directors of a:head, an Austria-based neuroscience stem cell, brain organoid research company. 

Dr. Schmidt has lived and worked across multiple geographies, including the United States of America and Europe, and has held leadership roles at Roche, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and Boehringer Ingelheim. He joined Biogen in 2018 as Managing Director of Biogen Germany, the largest Biogen subsidiary outside of the U.S. 

Dr. Schmidt holds a Master’s Degree in Science (Chemistry) from Ulm University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bayreuth.
