Nearly five decades after first planting our roots in Kendall Square, we announced plans to build a new global headquarters, remaining at the heart of Kendall Square, the most innovative square mile on the planet. Our new space represents the new Biogen and our next era of innovation, supporting our R&D and pipeline as we continue to pursue breakthrough medicines.
Centralized Innovation Hub
Our new headquarters, opening in 2028 to coincide with our 50th anniversary, will bring together teams across Biogen. Designed with sustainability and flexibility in mind, the building will feature cutting-edge laboratories, modern workspaces, and the Biogen CoLab—a hands-on lab where Biogen scientists and nonprofit educators can inspire learners of all ages to pursue careers in life sciences and healthcare.
“This new building is a home for the dedicated and passionate people within Biogen who work every day to bring new therapies to patients,” said Chris Viehbacher, President and Chief Executive Officer. “It will not only unite world-class research, development, operations and commercial teams, it will be designed for enhanced connectivity within and outside our walls, boasting one of the largest collaborative spaces in Kendall Square to bring together both teams and our partners to tackle some of the toughest challenges in medicine.”
Biogen’s Legacy in Kendall Square
Founded in 1978, our history in Cambridge started shortly after in the early 1980s when our first research facility and headquarters in Kendall Square was established. Long before Kendall Square was called “the most innovative square mile on the planet,” Biogen built its roots as a leading biotechnology company and is proud to continue to be an integral part of the Kendall Square community.
“We decided to invest in the next chapter of Kendall Square because of what this community represents: talent, energy, ingenuity, and collaboration,” Chris shared.
