At Biogen, our mission is clear: we are pioneers in neuroscience. Since our founding in 1978 as one of the world’s first global biotechnology companies, Biogen has led innovative scientific research with the goal over the last decade to defeat devastating neurological diseases.
We believe that no other disease area holds as much need or as much promise for medical breakthroughs as neuroscience. Our focus on neuroscience, our deep scientific expertise and our courage to take risks make us leaders in the research and development of medicines to transform neuroscience to benefit society.
Biogen contributes to the communities where we live. We are committed to our employees, diversity, equity and inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
We came to Biogen to solve the unsolvable. We stay to create new possibilities and grow together. We work fearlessly and go beyond because we care deeply about making a difference and changing lives. TO PATIENTS, HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, PARTNERS, AND OUR COMMUNITY
We are deeply concerned for our employees, our communities and everyone around the world who has been affected in some way by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Recently, the Biogen extended family in particular was affected by this virus, as a number of our colleagues fell ill after attending a meeting we held in Boston in late February. It hurts each one of us to know that some of our colleagues, loved ones, and business partners are in pain and living in isolation from their families, and that others are wondering what this may mean for them. These are people we collaborate with every day. Most importantly, they are friends we care deeply about.
We are grateful to the public health authorities who have been working with us since the very beginning to tackle the unprecedented challenge posed by this outbreak and thankful for the courage and compassion of the healthcare workers who are helping us.
To help ensure the health and safety of our employees, customers, patients, and partners, we have taken several actions, including:
Quarantine of anyone who attended the February meeting in Boston.
Isolation of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and symptomatic individuals who are awaiting test results and quarantine of their families.
Monitoring of our supply chain and operations to assure we can continue to produce important medicines for our patient communities around the world.
Requiring all employees everywhere in the world to stay home if they are not feeling well and to consult with their healthcare provider as appropriate.
Requiring all non-essential employees in our Massachusetts and Raleigh, North Carolina offices and several other offices throughout the world to work from home until further notice.
Mandating virtual meetings in affected countries at least through the end of March.
Increased and aggressive cleaning protocol for sites in the U.S. and globally.
This is a dynamic situation and we are focused on helping our communities and our employees through this difficult time. We have established and are consulting regularly with a panel of infectious disease experts to help us better understand COVID-19. We will continue to be vigilant and help wherever we can.
In the meantime, we continue to operate our business to serve the needs of our patients and advance our mission of being pioneers in neuroscience.
