Enrich Your Education

We welcome students and graduates to contribute their passion and creativity to our mission. Our programs include summer internships, six-month co-ops, MBA opportunities, post-doctoral programs, and both PharmD and Ph.D. Fellowships. These opportunities offer invaluable experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry and allow you to connect your academic achievements with your career aspirations. You will collaborate and foster relationships with experts within our company while also working to advance important Biogen initiatives.

Interns Share Their Experience at Biogen

Biogen is developing the next generation of talent in biotech. Hear from students as they discuss their internship experience, what attracted them to Biogen, and how they felt supported by their teams.

Interning at Biogen

Our internships are 10- to 12-week summer assignments focused on concrete projects to advance Biogen’s mission. We welcome students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program. Throughout the summer, students have access to specialty programming such as networking lunches, learning and development events, and our Care Deeply Day (a paid volunteer day for community service). Interns also have an opportunity to present a final project to managers, peers, and other members of the organization at the program’s conclusion.

The Co-op Experience

Hear from students as they discuss their co-op experience, the skills they gained, and the new relationships they've built.

Co-op Programs

Co-ops are six-month assignments that offer students an opportunity to focus more intently on long-term projects supporting the Biogen business. There are two programs annually: the first running from January to June and the second running from July to December. Co-op students work on in-depth projects closely aligned with their academic program and are afforded a lengthier opportunity to network with the Biogen team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the objectives of Biogen's internship and co-op programs?

Biogen’s Internship and Co-op Programs are experiential learning programs designed with three objectives:

  • Engage bright, passionate students with diverse perspectives, provide them with biotech industry experience, and foster relationships with experts in the field.
  • Provide Biogen employees with the opportunity to mentor the next generation of professionals.
  • Build a pipeline of future talent for Biogen.
What is the difference between an internship and a co-op at Biogen?

Both internships and co-ops at Biogen provide students with industry experience, development opportunities, and the chance to experience our unique culture.

Internships at Biogen are 10–12-week assignments in the summer (June to August). Students may or may not receive academic credit for their internship assignment.

Co-ops at Biogen are six-month assignments: July to December or January to June. Projects are more in-depth than internship projects and are closely aligned to a student’s academic program and curriculum. Co-op assignments may also include a rotation within the broader functional team.

What types of internships and co-ops are offered?

Internships and co-ops are offered at all degree levels based on projects and business need.

Functional areas include:

  • Clinical Development
  • Engineering
  • Manufacturing Sciences
  • Commercial Operations
  • Finance
  • Market Access
  • Community Lab
  • Human Resources
  • Marketing
  • Drug Discovery
  • Information Technology
  • Supply Chain
Where are internships and co-op assignments located?

In the U.S., most of our internships and co-op assignments are hybrid and based in:

  • Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

We also offer a limited number of openings in our Weston, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C., offices each year depending on business need. In addition to our other smaller locations, we offer a limited number of 100% remote internships every summer.

What are the eligibility requirements for Biogen's internship and co-op programs?

We hire interns and co-ops at all degree levels: bachelor’s, master’s, MBA, PharmD and Ph.D. based on project assignments. Each posting will specify what degree level is required for the respective project.

In order to be eligible for an internship or co-op assignment at Biogen, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited program and have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies by the scheduled start date.
Are internships and co-op assignments paid?

Yes, all of our internships and co-ops are paid assignments. Pay rates are consistent across Biogen, determined by year completed in school and assignment category (technical or non-technical).

Does Biogen offer internships for high school students?

Our Internship Program is currently designed for university students and as such, high school students are not eligible for internships. However, we encourage those in middle and high school interested in science and the work we do at Biogen to learn more about our Community Lab Program.

Can I apply for multiple internships or co-op positions?

Yes, you can apply for multiple positions, though we recommend narrowing your applications to a few positions that truly match your academic studies, skills, experience and interests.

What are the application deadlines?

Our internship and co-op postings will include any applicable deadlines. For most of our openings, we accept applications on a rolling basis and encourage you to apply sooner rather than later. Generally, our summer internships are filled by the end of March.

Will you let me know when an opening I applied to has been filled?

Yes, you will receive a notification from us about your application if an opening you applied to has been filled. If you applied to multiple openings, you may still be considered for the other assignment(s).

What are the timelines for internships and co-ops?

Internships

Our Intern Program runs in the summer months. Most interns start in late May or early June and work through August depending on their school’s schedule. Our internship assignments are designed to last 10–12 weeks, so we ask students to be able to commit to at least 10 weeks. Summer internship positions are generally posted December to early February as projects and mentors are identified. Interviews and selections are completed on a rolling basis and vary by position, but generally occur January to March.

Co-ops

We run two co-op sessions: January to June and July to December.

Co-op positions are generally posted:

  • In September for assignments starting in January.
  • In January for assignments starting in July.

If you are interested in a co-op or internship outside of our timelines, we recommend joining our Talent Community.

Can a student who has graduated apply for an internship or co-op?

Recent grads are not eligible for co-ops unless they are returning to school following their internship or co-op assignment (i.e., a student completed their undergraduate degree and will be starting a graduate program upon completion of their co-op assignment). We do not accept recent graduates who are not returning to an educational program.
